appreciation to John S. Boyden, Sr., for his faithful and dedicated service to the Hopi people for nearly a half century, and for his unswerving friendship with the members of the Hopi Tribe. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that in recognition of his unrelenting service to the Hopi people in defending and protecting the ancestral lands and traditions of the Hopi people, John S. Boyden, Sr., is hereby accorded the special distinction of Honorary Hopi Tribal Elder and Honorary Member of the Hopi Tribal Council. Abbott Sekaquaptewa, Chairman Hopi Tribal Council Kedrick L. In the case before the Indian Claims Commission, the Hopi were awarded much of the territory they claimed. The Commission failed to award them the eastern portion to the Meriwether line, and exceptions were taken to some other Hopi petitions. Work on Hopi claims against the United States was running simultaneously with Healing us. Jones, and hearings on the HopiNavajo overlap area were postponed to avoid conflicts with John's schedule while Healing us. Jones was in process. Some of John's statements in his "Objections to Navajo and U.S. Proposed Findings and Briefs" are representative of his clear thinking, and of his methods in pursuit of Hopi claims:
The 44 pages of proposed finding 4 are simply "dumped upon the Commission in much the same fashion as Navajo evidence was submitted during the trial, with reckless abandonment of the objectives of relevancy and probative value but with the obvious hope that the Commission might be impressed
