This is the last entry mentioning Coalville in the diary for 1957. We will assume that the livestock and the cabin at Coalville wintered well, and that the annual round continued in the Spring of 1958. In the 1940's and early 1950's, John frequently went to Coalville Saturdays, and at other times when business and seasonal events required. Examples: Saturday, December 2,1950, John made a trip to Coalville for grading bulls; August 16 and 18, 1951, at Coalville on farm matters, arranging to market pigs, etc.; Monday, September 17, 1951, in Coalville for court; Saturday, January 12, 1952, in Coalville on farm and law business; March 4, 1952, a Tuesday, in Coalville for Range Co. meeting and cattle sale, etc. Further into the 1950'5, representing the Hopis and Utes, involvements with Ernest Wilkinson on other Indian matters, work with the Shoshone-Bannocks, with the Paiutes, the years as Bishop, the beginnings of Ideal National Life Insurance, etc., made it difficult for John to get to Coalville with the same frequency. Fortunately, as the boys grew older they were able to fill in some of the voids resulting from their father's busy schedule; but, as was the nature of the Boyden family, the other family members tended to develop busy schedules too. Sometimes the mother, who had a busy schedule of responsibilities too, as she watched the traffic through the house with family members going from one assignment to another, couldn't help wondering if all this busyness resulted in the best of all possible worlds for her husband and children. A happening in Coalville that resulted in emotional involvement for John, other community members, and persons in the state generally who were interested in preserving attractive historical buildings that represent part of our heritage, was the discussion of tearing down the Stake Tabernacle and replacing it with a modem, more commodious and utilitarian building. The tabernacle had always been there. It was one of the local features that community members took pride in and enjoyed pointing out to visitors. Walter Boyden and Frank Evans are said to have "hand rubbed every outside brick to polish it." The thirteen spires, the Gothic windows with Mormon motifs, the "lavishly painted ceiling chased with ornamental designs and
