The Gerald R. Sherratt Library Historical Photograph Collection is a composite of photographs from many sources covering places and events in Iron County, Utah and the surrounding areas.
The Allen Leigh Photograph Collection contains images of scenery and life in Southern Utah. Ashdown Gorge, Brian Head, Cedar Breaks, and Navaho Lake are featured. His photographs also show the activities of Utah Parks Company employees.
The yearbooks document student life and activities from 1915 to 1982.
Originally the Beaver Branch of Brigham Young University, the school became independent in 1908 and was renamed Murdock Academy. Housed in the buildings of Fort Cameron, a former military base outside of Beaver, Utah, it offered a 4 year high school program. Southern Utah University began as the Southern Branch of the State Normal School of the University of Utah in 1897-98. This collection contains early college catalogs. They give insights into the educational environment as well as list the officers and instructors, the courses offered, and the students enrolled.
Special Collections and Archives houses library materials deemed too valuable, rare, or fragile to be made available through general circulation. Materials include books, manuscripts, sound recordings, musical scores, photographs and artifacts. All materials are open and available for scholarly research but may only be used in the Christopher/Mann Reading Room under the supervision of Special Collections staff. Copying of materials is strictly controlled by our Materials Use Policy. There is generally no fee for non-distributed scholarly or educational use.
In addition to our responsibilities for protecting and preserving rare, valuable and fragile materials generally, our collection development policy focuses on acquiring materials specifically relating to Utah history, southern Utah, the life and works of William Shakespeare and the Native Americans of southern Utah, in particular the Paiute Indian Tribe.
